The monument at Confederate Circle. This is where a large number of soldiers from the Battle of Nashville were buried in the years following the war. One reason was due to the large range of the battle, bodies had been buried all over and landowners really didn't want to have to worry about digging up some grave when doing the spring planting...

Adelicia Acklen, whose mansion formed the basis for Belmont University, tells us of some of the big points in her life. Including the eventual selling of a large cotton crop for $960,000... in 1866. She used some of that to buy a lot of Roman statuary that even now is at the Belmont Mansion.

The cemetary is full of wonderful statues and sculptures. We even found a large calla lilly statue in the cemetary on our way back to the cars.

Senator John Bell. The Bells associated with the Bell Witch are from another part of the family. No, this John Bell was a very influential statesman from the time just prior to the War of Northern Aggression. He even ran for President against Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, and John Breckinridge. Won three states (TN, KY, and VA).

Some of the other actors portrying people buried there. Often they were quite frank that they were dead and many began their story by pointing to where their grave was in the cemetary if they weren't actually at it. I think this is George Maney, a general and later ambassador to several South American countries.

Captain Ryman is famed for building the Union Gospel Tabernacle after he was finally brought into religion by a tent revivalist. The tabernacle is better known as it was renamed: The Ryman Auditorium, former home of the Grand Ole Opry.

Paul and Kim are a great pair of friends that do a lot of reenacting work where they play historic music. When asking for a request we had the choice of a song about drinking, someone dying, someone getting killed, or something else :P And if someone killed, we had the choice of shooting, poisoning, hanging, or drowning.
